Israelis with children in Ministry of Education schools are entitled to Microsoft Office 365 – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and more – free!

Free Microsoft Office!

The cheapest edition of Microsoft Office for sale today runs 299 NIS per year.

But if you have a child (or are a teacher) in a Ministry of Education school in Israel, you are entitled to Microsoft Office for free!  In fact, every child is entitled to download and install the full Microsoft Office suite on 5 devices, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.

Download Office 365

You may download either the English or Hebrew editions of Office.

To Download the English Edition

  1. Visit the Educational Portal.
  2. Click “כניסה דרך משרד החינוך.”
  3. Enter using one of the means available, either username and password or via registered cell phone.  (If your child uses the Ofek (אופק) site for school, these same credentials can be used.)
  4. For English Microsoft Office, click on the Israeli flag icon on the top left of the screen.
  5. Select the British flag / English option.
  6. Write down the user name which appears at the top of the page.  It will end with .eduil.org (e.g., cohen3@modiin.eduil.org).
  7. Click on the orange circle labeled “Office 365.”
  8. On the next screen, click on the rectangle labeled “Install Office,” then select “Office 365 apps.”
  9. Save and Run the file.
  10. After it’s installed and you open one of the programs, you’ll be asked to accept the license agreement.
  11. When a screen appears asking you to sign in, use the user name which you wrote down in step 7 above.
  12. You will be asked to login again to the Ministry of Education’s portal.  Select “כניסה דרך משרד החינוך.”  Enter your child’s user name and password (the one from step 3, not the one from step 7).

  1. So does anyone know: If I didn’t know this and subscribed to Microsoft Office 365, and want to get the free version before the next time I have to pay – do I need to uninstall and reinstall Office? Is there some shortcut? Thanks!

    1. Good question, Ilana. I believe you can switch associated users at any time. In my experience, if your first license is cancelled, you’ll eventually be prompted to put in a username associated with a working license. Feel free to let us know how it goes!
